Architecture and wine, wine and architecture…

Château le Rosey is one of the oldest wine-growing estates in the region known as “la Côte”, and  dates back to the Middle Ages. The characteristics of its vineyards reflect centuries of quest and commitment to matching the vines to the qualities of the soil and weather: the Rosey’s original vine stocks were planted in the thirteenth century by the very first owners of the château. Generations of vine-growing families have been enjoying the estate’s wines ever since.

Enlightened restoration work under the direction of the present owners has drawn out of the very stones of the house its past history and its original appearance, which had been marred by centuries of changes, additions and divisions. As one discovery led to the next, the castle gradually regained its wholeness, just as wine finds its fullness under the careful guidance of a good “maître de chais”.

At the very heart of the building, the “cellier” or wine store, which holds the estate’s treasure, opens out on to the castle’s recently reinstated enclosed central courtyard.

By complementing its wine-growing activity with the role of an inn, the château is regaining its vocation as a refuge, a haven for passing guests.

The courtyard represents the centre of activity, an enclosed space where the storeroom guards the soil’s treasure. Playing the lead role, is the wine that has been savoured by owners of the château since the 13th century, when vines were first planted there and the château first constructed. Fifteen different wines – whites, rosés and reds, stemming from integrated production are available for tasting.

Gastronomic meals are regularly hosted in the dining room. These feature unique menus created by different guest chefs, integrating dishes that perfectly complement the vineyard’s wines. The château also organises special events, affording utmost discretion within its protective walls.

Clear spring-water runs in the château’s many fountains. The first people to settle at le Rosey chose their site well. Since times immemorial the spring has provided the estate with all the water it needs and guests can now also sample a lightly sparkling version of it.

Each of the rooms available for conferences and seminars has ADSL and Public Wireless LAN facilities. Technical equipment such as video projection and P.A. systems can be arranged.

Upstairs, four double rooms offers views of the vineyards, inviting their inhabitants to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the estate.

All of the furnishings were designed by the architects and interior designers responsible for the renovation of the château. These items can be ordered or made-to-measure.

Guests may leave their cars at the entrance to the château. There are five covered parking spaces on the property, as well as two car parks with twenty and thirty spaces respectively, at the bottom of the village and less than three minutes’ walk away.
